Week 3 Newspapers and Maine Newsstand

I decided to do a search on earthquakes in Maine because of the one we had the other day. I was able to find articles from all over the state.  There were thousands of articles available to read! Maine Newsstand brought up almost 2,000 articles while ProQuest offered 5800 articles. I like the graph feature to the right that allows you to narrow your search to specific years, months and even days of the month. I also created an alert to my email, not that I am expecting another earthquake, but I did want to see if I could figure it out.  I probably should have created an alert with another subject because I don’t think I will be seeing any activity with the subject I chose. I will save that for another day. :)

The tutorial “Maine Resources in Marvel” was very helpful. I intend to take some time to explore the Maine Memory Network and the Windows on Maine.

I spent some time reading other’s posts and was so impressed with all the information available. I learned additional information from other posts that I hadn’t discovered myself. Thanks everyone!

I have not been able to use this resource myself with students but I know that the teachers are planning to utilize it in their classrooms. Such a valuable resource!

  1. It's amazing how many articles we could find just from Maine newspapers, isn't it? I searched the Dempsey Challenge as that was in the news quite a bit recently and found dozens of articles. I certainly can see myself using this part of Marvel with my students.
